HOW DO YOU EMBRACE DIVERSITY AND/OR UNCONVENTIONALITY?
I'm unconventional in my life every day; I am constantly trying to do things that make me uncomfortable (in a productive manner), challenge the norm, and honestly, ones that many people haven't thought of yet.
If I were to tell you a specific time in my life that I've been unconventional, it was about three years ago when I decided to move to Costa Rica for 6 months during covid. This really impacted my family and friends, and not necessarily in the most positive way; it worried my mom, dad, and older brothers because I had never traveled on my own for such a long period of time, my friends were quite fearful of my mental health deteriorating even more because I had been going through a lot of personal stuff, and it impacted me in ways that I could write books about.
Ever since that trip to Costa Rica, I decided that I had to work remotely - no ifs, ands or buts. I switched jobs while I was down there and I haven't looked back since. My mental health sure, took a bit of a decline for some parts of that trip, but if I didn't go through that, I wouldn't be here today.
Overall, that time in my life introduced people to me that taught me who I truly am as a person. I hated myself going into that trip, was struggling financially as well, and was really not in a good place. However, it taught me the value of life and the importance of traveling.
HOW DO YOU EXPRESS YOURSELF CREATIVELY?
Ever since I was six years old, I've kept a journal. I write every day, multiple times per day; handwriting in a journal, on my ipad, and typing. Everything is documented in this app called, Day One (it's literally my favorite thing on earth).
The reason why I know myself to the degree that I do is because I write down every thought that crosses my mind. I genuinely do not know what I would do or what my life would be like if I didn't start writing when I did. It's one of my biggest priorities.
Also, I started dancing when I was two years old and began competitive when I was 8. From this, I grew a love for music that still grows to this day. I am so so so in love with music and I cannot express the amount of emotion that it evokes out of me. I play guitar, piano and love to sing.
HOW DO YOU THINK YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY? WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU ARE AN EXPERT IN AND COULD GIVE ADVICE TO THE COMMUNITY ON?
I can contribute to the community in a myriad of ways.
1. I have a consulting agency called mægnet (maegnetconsulting.com) where I offer career and recruitment coaching for people that either want a change in their career and/or would like to hire someone for their company. I also do this at a much lower rate and with payment plans for those who are in a tougher financial situation. I have gained clients through the Hermanas network - gotten them jobs, helped with their resumes/linkedin profiles, taught them interview tips, etc. I would love to continue giving advice, providing advice, and helping develop hermanas quality of life through my services. If you guys see a collaboration here or way for me to help mentor in another way, I'd love to chat. I've reached out before about helping to hire for roles that you guys may be looking for and I'd be more than happy to whenever you guys need.
2. Build a community in Montreal, Toronto, and Santa Teresa. I grew up in Toronto and know it like the back of my hand - I'd be an asset to you guys in building a community here. I now live in Montreal and would love to help do the same. In terms of Santa, I've lived there for two winters (11 months total) and could provide connections, tips, etc. very easily there. The rent prices are flying up and I think if we built a community there it could help ease the problem that tourists are creating for locals.
3. General travel tips & networking. I am insanely organized and keep records of everywhere I go, want to try, and my opinions about both. I'd love to chat about new spots to go to and collaborate with others in Hermanas.
4. Renting. I live in Montreal for roughly five months of the year but the other part of the year, I move somewhere south - this means that I am happy to rent out my place in Montreal to a hermana.
5. Provide insight on being a mixed individual growing up in North America. I'm half Chinese and half Italian, both of my parents are immigrants, and growing up has never been the easiest for me. I'd absolutely love to chat with any other hermanas in the group that have been raised in a similar fashion and/or perhaps have the exact opposite upbringing. I think educating people about this is very important and I'd love to if you guys see fit.
6. I'm fluent in English and French and would love to help out anyone that wants to learn either.
